How the check digit is calculated

Each letter gets a value (A=10, B=12 … Z=38 – the numbers 11, 22 and 33 are skipped), digits keep their value. Values 1–10 are multiplied by 1, 2, 4, 8 … 512, the sum is divided by 11 and the remainder (10 becomes 0) is the check digit.
