Transit document (T1)

What is Transit document (T1)?

A T1 document (common transit) allows goods not yet cleared through customs to move through the EU or transit countries without paying duties and VAT on the way.

Also called: transit document, NCTS, T1 document

Customs clearance happens at destination. The goods remain under customs control throughout the journey and must arrive within a set time limit with seals intact.

T1 is used, for example, when non-cleared goods from outside the EU travel through one or more EU countries to the place where they will be cleared.
