Customs clearance (customs declaration)

What is Customs clearance (customs declaration)?

Customs clearance is the filing of a customs declaration when goods enter or leave the EU. Only then are the goods released.

Also called: customs clearance, customs declaration

For imports the declaration states, among other things, the commodity code, value, origin, shipper and consignee. Duty and import VAT are then calculated. For exports the declaration documents that the goods have left the EU.

In Denmark declarations are filed electronically with the Danish Customs Agency – usually by a forwarder or customs agent on behalf of the importer or exporter.

Make sure commercial invoices and goods descriptions are correct; errors cause delays and extra costs.
