HS code (commodity code)

What is HS code (commodity code)?

The HS code is the international numbering system for goods. It determines the duty rate and whether special rules apply to the goods.

Also called: commodity code, tariff code

The first six digits are shared worldwide (Harmonized System). The EU uses eight digits (CN code) and ten digits on import (TARIC code).

The correct code determines duty, any anti-dumping duty, licence requirements and statistics. If in doubt, you can apply to the customs authorities for a binding tariff information decision.
