Dual-use and sanctions

What is Dual-use and sanctions?

Dual-use items can be used for both civil and military purposes and often require an export licence. Sanctions may prohibit trade with certain countries, companies or persons.

Also called: sanctions, export control, dual-use goods

The EU Dual-Use Regulation lists items – such as certain electronics, software, chemicals and machinery – that need a licence for export outside the EU. In Denmark licences are handled by the Danish Business Authority.

Sanctions change often and can also target consignees and banks – not just countries. It is the shipper's responsibility to ensure an export is lawful, but we will ask if something looks unusual.
