CBM (cubic metre)

What is CBM (cubic metre)?

CBM (cubic metre) is the volume of the goods in cubic metres: length × width × height in metres. It is used to price groupage, especially in ocean and air freight.

Also called: cubic metre, m3, m³, volume

Volume is calculated per package and added up. A EUR pallet of 1.2 × 0.8 m with a height of 1.5 m takes up 1.44 m³.

For ocean groupage (LCL), 1 m³ is typically equated with 1,000 kg (W/M). For air freight, volume is often converted using the factor 1:6,000 (167 kg per m³).
