Groupage (LTL)

What is Groupage (LTL)?

Groupage covers smaller shipments – such as single pallets or packages – consolidated with other customers' goods in the same truck. It is also called LTL (less than truckload).

Also called: groupage, LTL, less than truckload, part load

Groupage usually moves via terminals, where goods are transhipped and consolidated into trucks heading for the same area. This makes small shipments affordable but gives slightly longer transit times than a direct full load.

The price is usually based on chargeable weight – the highest of actual weight, loading metres and volume converted to kilos.

The opposite is FTL / full truck load.
