Freight forwarder
What is Freight forwarder?
A freight forwarder organises transport on behalf of others – choosing modes and carriers, handling documents and customs, and acting as the customer's single point of contact.
Also called: forwarder, forwarding agent
The forwarder does not necessarily operate vehicles but buys capacity from shipping lines, airlines, railways and hauliers and combines it into one solution – e.g. collection by truck, ocean freight and final delivery.
A haulier performs the actual road transport with its own trucks. Some companies are both.
